HEATHER ALLEY

Heather Alley is a 20 year old musician and vocalist from Miamisburg, Ohio. Heather was raised up in church with a hymnal in hand, and has been singing for as long as she can remember. After taking piano lessons for 6-7 years, she decided she wanted to learn mandolin at the age of 14, eventually learning the guitar and fiddle as well. It came almost as naturally as singing, since she’d spent her whole life loving the bluegrass gospel music that would come out of her mom and Papaw’s radios.

Soon after picking up the mandolin, Heather and her family were led to start traveling and singing in churches. Drawing inspiration from some of their favorites such as The Stanley Brothers, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, Alison krauss, and Rhonda Vincent, they recorded 3 gospel albums under their band name “The Alley Family”. Around junior year of high school, Heather joined The Alternative Strings bluegrass orchestra group ran by Doug Eyink. Through this program, she got the opportunity to play with groups such as Joe Mullins and the Radio Ramblers, Nothin Fancy, Blue Highway, Flatt Lonesome, Band of Ruhks, and Darin & Brooke Aldridge at festivals including The MACC and the Southern Ohio Indoor Music Festival. After traveling and playing music throughout her high school career, she was accepted at Morehead State University into the Kentucky Center for Traditional Music program where she still studies today and is a member of the Mountain Music Ambassadors. Heather now considers the bluegrass-rich community of Eastern Kentucky to be her home.
